Expected Signals in Relic Neutrino Detectors

چکیده
Here we estimate the magnitude of the signals expected for realistic cosmic neutrino backgrounds in detectors attempting to measure the mechanical forces exerted on macroscopic targets by the elastic scattering of relic neutrinos. We study effects proportional to the weak coupling constant GF and to G 2 F for Dirac and Majorana neutrinos, either relativistic or non-relativistic, both gravitationally bound or not.

Prospect for relic neutrino searches
Neutrinos from the Big Bang are theoretically expected to be the most abundant particles in the Universe after the photons of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). Unlike the relic photons, relic neutrinos have not so far been observed. The Cosmic Neutrino Background (CνB) is the oldest relic from the Big Bang, produced a few seconds after the Bang itself. Due to their impact in cosmology, rel...
متن کاملIndirect search for Dark Matter with the ANTARES neutrino telescope
Relic neutralinos produced after the Big Bang are favoured candidates for Dark Matter. They can accumulate at the centre of massive celestial objects like our Sun. Their annihilation can result in a high-energy neutrino flux that could be detectable as a localised emission with earthbased neutrino telescopes like ANTARES. In this paper a brief overview of the prospects of the indirect search fo...
متن کاملSupernova Relic Neutrinos in Liquid Argon detectors
We study the possibility of detecting the background of Supernova Relic Neutrinos (SRN) with liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (TPC) detectors. As far as this study is concerned, these experimental devices are mainly sensitive to electron neutrino signals, and could provide further information on both Supernova explosion mechanism and star formation rate at redshifts z ≤ 1. We study in detai...
متن کاملRelic Neutrino Absorption Spectroscopy
Resonant annihilation of extremely high-energy cosmic neutrinos on big-bang relic anti-neutrinos (and vice versa) into Z-bosons leads to sizable absorption dips in the neutrino flux to be observed at Earth. The high-energy edges of these dips are fixed, via the resonance energies, by the neutrino masses alone. Their depths are determined by the cosmic neutrino background density, by the cosmolo...
متن کاملThe Supernova Relic Neutrino Backgrounds at KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande
We calculate the Supernova Relic Neutrino (SRN) background flux for the KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande (Super-K) detectors, motivated by the reduction in background at Super-K and new results for the star formation history (e.g., from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS)). Our best estimate for the flux at Super-K is slightly below, but very close to the current Super-K upper limit. The Super-K up...
